How do I refer my child?

To engage in occupational therapy services, simply contact us(please hyperlink ‘contact us’ and link to ‘get in touch’ form) and we can assist with any questions you may have. Should you wish to start occupational therapy services, the intake process shall begin.

 

What happens after referral?

After referral, our occupational therapist will meet with you to determine what your child’s needs are and what outcome you are hoping to achieve with therapy. We will talk to you about your child’s development and any concerns you have. Initial assessment will vary depending on you areas of concern. Assessment is usually 1 hour in duration, but can last up to 1.5 hours. Following initial assessment, our occupational therapist will review the results of testing and outline how occupational therapy can assist your child. An initial assessment report will be written outlining the therapist observations and assessment as well as the therapy plan.

 

How much does treatment cost?

How long is each session?

The length of sessions will vary on your child’s profile, how often they are attending therapy. Sessions are typically 50 minutes in duration.

 

How long will treatment last?

This is dependent on your child’s profile and how often your child will be attending therapy. Weekly therapy will assist to maintain the intensity of the treatment. Less frequent therapy session will result in smaller and slower gains for your child. Our occupational therapists regularly provide feedback regarding your child’s progress. Options regarding therapy will always be discussed with you.

 

What results can I expect to see?

This will depend on the individual profile of your child and what you are hoping to achieve by attending therapy. The frequency and intensity of the therapy shall also determine the gains made and the outcome of the therapy. Being involved in your child’s therapy sessions and assisting the therapist with implementation at home can help lead to better outcomes.

 

Are sessions held in a therapy room? Will the therapist attend my school, daycare or home?

Our occupational therapists can visit you in your child’s occupational setting, whether it be home, school or daycare. We are a mobile service and can arrange sessions at a time which is convenient to you.

 My child is being seen by other therapists. Are Aged Disability Injury Rehabilitation Services therapists able to communicate with other therapists to ensure a consistent approach and best outcome for my child?

The initial assessment report can be forwarded (at your request) to other therapists and healthcare professionals. Our therapists can include your approved health practitioners and therapists in regular updates regarding your child. Our therapists can be made available for participation in case conferences if required. Please advise when and if you require this service as there is a fee for service.
